It Starts With Us

Family Councils Week is June 3rd - 9th

This year Family Councils Week takes place from June 3rd to June 9th. The theme for our annual conference as well as Family Councils Week 2023 is It Starts With Us: Family Councils as Changemakers. We invite you to spend this week learning more about how #FamilyCouncils are working to improve the quality of life and care in long-term care, and join us in celebrating their many achievements.

Here's how you can get involved during Family Councils Week 2023:

  • Register for our upcoming conference!
  • Submit your Family Council story. Tell us about a change you implemented or success you had!
  • Post about Family Councils Week 2023 using the hashtag #ItStartsWithUs. Scroll down for our social media toolkit including tweets, hashtags, and images you can share
  • Look into joining or starting a Family Council. You can connect with us at info@fco.ngo to ask questions or request resources to support you and your long-term care community.

Let's celebrate Family Councils together! Share your story today:

Our theme for Family Councils Week 2023, It Starts With Us, reminds us of the fact that changes for the better begin with small steps we take as Family Council members, caregivers, advocates, students, and staff. We want to amplify your stories and experiences. By doing so, we let those living, working, and caring in long-term care across Ontario know that they are not alone in their experiences, while providing examples of the big and small actions we can take now!

Did your Family Council organize an event or fundraiser? Did your long-term care home staff go the extra mile for their residents? Did you have an experience working as a placement student in long-term care that has stuck with you? We want to know all about it! We invite you to tell us more through a brief survey linked below, where you can also indicate if you would like your story to be shared as a blog, a video, on social media, or just with our Family Councils Ontario team!

Click here to tell us about your story and experiences.

If you have questions about our story sharing project, or would like to share in greater detail than the survey allows, please contact our Communications Manager at leah.cabral@fco.ngo.
