Antibiotic Stewardship – What it means and why it is important

Antibiotic stewardship is a strategy to improve the use of anti-infective medication. A primary is the emergence of more antibiotic resistant bacteria. Inappropriate antibiotic prescribing increases the risk of adverse effects, drug interaction and cost. Missed diagnoses can result from incautious prescribing. This presentation will outline the scope of the problem and strategies to reduce the risks.
