The Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care is proposing amendments to the Long-Term Care Homes Act, 2007, as well as complementary and consequential amendments to other legislation, to achieve further progress on the LTC homes modernization plan. If approved, the amendments would introduce a new suite of enforcement tools to enhance the existing inspections framework, and uphold resident rights and freedoms through a consent-based confinement framework.
Bill 160, the Strengthening Quality and Accountability for Patients Act, 2017 was introduced in the Legislature on September 27th, 2017 and was debated in the House during second reading in October. The Bill has been referred to Standing Committee on General Government.
The Standing Committee on General Government will meet to consider Bill 160 and the Committee intends to hold public hearings in Toronto on November 15, 16, 20, and 22, 2017.
· Interested people who wish to be considered to make an oral presentation on Bill 160 on November 15 or 16, 2017, should provide their contact name, mailing address, phone number, and email address to the Clerk of the Committee by 4:00 p.m. on November 8, 2017.
· Interested people who wish to be considered to make an oral presentation on Bill 160 on November 20 or 22, 2017 should provide their contact name, mailing address, phone number, and email address to the Clerk of the Committee by 4:00 p.m. on November 15, 2017.
Those who do not wish to make an oral presentation but wish to comment on the Bill may send a written submission to the Clerk of the Committee at the address below by 12:00 noon on Thursday, November 23, 2017.
