Wondering who Emiliano is, and what brought him to where he is today? We were curious too, so we asked him a few questions:

Where did you find your interest/passion in EDI? Most people believe EDI is important, but not many take to it with the commitment level that you have–where does/did that come from?

“I have been splitting time between Montreal and Vermont for the past 6+ years. Vermont happens to be the second Whitest state in the US. There was a huge gap for me in terms of finding community, so I started getting involved in some community organizing. Then the George Floyd murder happened and it really kicked my desire to effect change into high gear. I felt a sense of responsibility to do more and felt like I had an opportunity to drive real change, so I got to work.”

What do you think are the biggest challenges for organizations today who are looking to create more equitable workplaces/spaces?

“EDI for a lot of organizations is still considered a ‘nice to have’ versus a ‘must have’. It often lives in siloed components of organizations, with very little financial support, and lacks the organizational support to implement actionable solutions. Any initiative that focuses on organizational change requires dollars in order to happen, buy-in from stakeholders top to bottom, as well as support from leadership to execute the required change. EDI is a lens that your whole organization should be looking through.”

What do you believe people will learn from our upcoming webinar/conversation–what will they come away with?

“I think people will get the picture that everyone of us can pitch in to impact change. From an organizational perspective, people should walk away understanding that our moral compasses, and business objectives don’t have to be mutually exclusive. From individuals, to organizations, to communities, we can all help move the needle.”
