Emergency Preparedness for Older Adults

The Emergency Preparedness for Older Adults session will focus on why it is important to be prepared in case of an emergency, some of the barriers faced by older adults to prepare, and a number of recommendations on how to promote emergency preparedness among older adults. In addition, this presentation will highlight some of the work done by the Canadian Red Cross in this field.

Alejandro Terrones is the current Director of the Canadian Red Cross' Disaster Risk Reduction and Climate Change Adaptation Program, where he oversees a variety of projects aimed at increasing resilience to disasters resulting from natural hazards. Alejandro has nearly 20 years experience in risk reduction, emergency response, and humanitarian action both domestically and internationally, as well as a Honours Bachelor of Science degree, a professional certificate in Emergency Management, and a post graduate degree in Infrastructure in Emergencies.
