Would you like to join the Board of Directors of Family Councils Ontario?
We are seeking enthusiastic community members with a connection to our community to help shape the future of this essential community service organization.
Our Mission: Leading and supporting families in improving quality of life in long-term care.
Family Councils Ontario works with long-term care home residents' families, Family Councils, and home staff across Ontario to enable them to cultivate positive relationships, build effective Family Councils, and improve the long-term care experience. Our mission is to lead and support families in improving quality of life in long-term care. Through working with families, long-term care home staff, and sector partners, we strive to create a safe, vibrant, inclusive, and respected long-term care system.
Family Councils Ontario is seeking nominees for its Board of Directors to fill upcoming vacancies.
To reflect the communities we serve, we strive for our Board to be representative of the rich diversity of voices in all ways. Family Councils Ontario embraces diversity in all its forms including gender, age, ability, disability, socioeconomic status, race, gender identity, and language in our programs and services, and will continue to build our capacity to effectively support all people living in long-term care.
Family Councils Ontario is dedicated to recognizing the dynamic individual experiences of long-term care residents, families, and long-term care home staff across the province of Ontario. Through our work, we aim to further create safe spaces and resources for a range of individuals from various social, socioeconomic, and ethnic backgrounds and of different genders and sexual orientations.
FCO welcomes applications from individuals in Ontario with expertise in media relations, dementia care, or health care policy. We also keenly welcome all interested individuals who bring the lived experience of participating in an Ontario Family Council.
Your Commitment to the FCO Board

- The Nominations and Governance Committee assumes the primary responsibility for matters pertaining to the Board’s governance, recruitment, nominations process, orientation, training and evaluation, in accordance with the by-laws as well as established policies and practices approved by the Board,
- the Finance Committee assists in fulfilling its oversight responsibility relating to financial and accounting matters,
- and the Fundraising Committee aims to build capacity for fund-raising activities for FCO Board members and staff, and initiate fund-raising activities aimed at individual and corporate sponsors.
On average, Board members commit four to six hours per month, plus meeting preparation time. Committee Chairs may dedicate more time. Board terms are two years and Board members may serve to a maximum of three consecutive terms.
