Goals of this group are to share personal feelings that relate to caring for a person living with dementia in a long-term care (LTC) home. Should you choose to participate in this group please know that we expect you to observe the strictest confidentiality.

To guide discussion, the group will focus on a different theme relating to LTC on each month:


• January -Understanding your role when caring for someone in LTC
• February – Transition to LTC
• March- Managing feelings of guilt, relief and sadness
• April- How to prepare for Plan of Care Meetings and what to expect
• May-Family Councils
• June- Grief and Ambiguous Loss
• July- Advanced Health Care Planning
• August- What are responsive behaviours and why do they happen?
• September- Activities to engage the person you are supporting
• November-Understanding Medications
• December - Special Occasions

In order to participate in this group, the person you support must have some cognitive impairment and you or the resident must live in the M postal code. Once you register for the session the facilitator will reach out to you by phone for a short pre-screening and to confirm your attendance.

Support Group is presented using Zoom.

Registration for the group is capped at 12 participants to ensure that all individuals attending the group have enough time to share. Your registration for this session does not apply to future drop-in dates**
